A tension control system is used anywhere web material must move through a machine without stretching, wrinkling, telescoping or breaking. In a typical unwind, process and rewind line, web tension changes as roll diameter, speed, inertia and friction change. KRD tension controllers use feedback from load cells or related sensors, then regulate brakes, clutches, amplifiers or drive signals to keep material tension within the required range.
Unstable tension can create wrinkles, web breaks, coating variation, registration drift, loose rewind rolls and excessive edge stress. These problems often appear during acceleration, deceleration, splice events or roll diameter changes. A properly selected KRD tension control system reduces manual adjustment by measuring actual web force and correcting the output before the issue becomes visible in downstream quality.
Printing presses, laminators, coaters, slitting machines, inspection rewinders, film lines, foil handling and lithium battery electrode processes all depend on repeatable tension control.
Useful selection data includes material type, web width, target tension range, maximum line speed, roll diameter, control zone and whether the machine requires open-loop or closed-loop feedback.
The correct architecture depends on the machine section. Unwind zones commonly use brake or clutch control because roll diameter and inertia change continuously. Process zones may use load cells to maintain a stable force across coating, printing, laminating or inspection sections. Rewind zones require careful control so the roll builds evenly without telescoping or crushed edges.
To quote a tension control package, KRD normally reviews material type, minimum and maximum tension, line speed, roll diameter, shaft structure, available installation space, electrical interface and desired operator controls. This helps match controllers, sensors, amplifiers and magnetic powder components as one practical system.
To speed up product matching, provide web width, material type, maximum line speed, required accuracy, control location and the current quality issue. If the machine is a retrofit, include photos of the installation space and existing controller or sensor models.
This information allows KRD Automation to recommend a product family, identify compatibility risks and decide whether the application is best served by a standard component or a customized package.
For engineering review, KRD recommends documenting the current machine issue, expected production improvement and any space or electrical limitations before final selection. This makes it easier to compare product options and avoid mismatches between catalogue specifications and real operating conditions on the production floor.
